Monocoat heat-shrink film (MonoKote, UltraCote, Solarfilm, Oracover, and similar products) is what most RC modelers use to cover wings, fuselages, and control surfaces. The film is thin, color-impregnated, and bonded to the airframe with heat-activated adhesive. Anything that softens that adhesive (alcohol, ammonia, harsh degreasers) can lift edges and pop seams. Anything that abrades the film (cutting compounds, rough polishes) hazes the gloss.
